Hey, this is another significant update to this project! Playtesting revealed that the most prominent issue with the game is general confusion as to the rules and controls. As such I have implemented a series of animated tutorials which should allow new players to understand the game! These come in the form of optional popups at specific points, as well as a selectable help button.
In addition there has been several quality of life improvements/balance patches:
- The wave order has been modified so Squid appear on wave 3 (rather than 2)
- The original tutorial text has been removed, making way for new animated tutorials
- The Nautilus time to dry out has been reduced to 5 seconds
- A clicking animation has been added to indicate where the player has clicked to move the crabs (as well as one for right clicking)
- A bug with moving whilst a shelled crab is charging has been fixed
- A bug that could sometimes trap shelled crabs in the spawn zone has been fixed
For the future, I hope to:
- Perform more playtesting
- Add at least one new enemy
- Change the bounding boxes so crabs can't enter the fish spawn accidentally
- Redesign the crab movement so they aren't as jittery
- Add in some accessibility and system options
- Add an actual list of credits
- Insert some crab facts... somewhere
